Thank You Notes

I think the concept of a written note goes a long way. I think manners are paramount to a successful career. Perhaps two old-fashioned or outdated ideas but I know both served me well in my career. Before the clock struck midnight on concert night, I would compose a thank-you note to my Choirs - sharing my most immediate thoughts regarding their performance. I would print and post it outside the Choir Room door the following morning. I know my kids read every word. Here are a few examples...

THROUGH THE DECADES

SECTION LEADERS & OFFICERS

Dear Choir Officers & Section Leaders:

Please permit me to reflect on my gratitude for having each of you as leaders for our Choral Department. You are consistent, friendly and kind to everyone in the room – both in and out of choir. You are helpful and supportive as often as you can be – checking in with me every day to see if there is something you can do. You do the right thing, even when no one is looking. You are true and honest to yourself, me and others. You’ve got each other’s backs.

You matter to me in so many ways and I am glad you’re in my world.

Have a restful long weekend and a joyous time with your friends and family.

Happy Thanksgiving!
